Karizzma, born Erica Rupine on the 19th April 1991, is considered to be one of the hottest rising ladies on the Guyanese music scene. Her 2020 Soca Hit ‘Action’ placed her on the map and saw her being listed as a winner of the Department of Social Cohesion’s 2020 People’s Choice Awards.

We recently invited Karizzma to participate in our Gtmemoirs 5Q interview series. Our goal was to learn about Karizzma, before she started in music and her journey so far. The following interview was conducted by Gyaff.

1Q. Where did you grow up? I was born at GPHC, lived in Albouystown as a baby, moved to Hadfield Street as a toddler where I lived up until I was about 18. I have lived in several areas since then including on the West Side, Kitty, Diamond, Ogle, Industry and currently living in Better Hope East Coast Demerara.

2Q. What do you want to achieve, personally, in the music industry? Personally, I have a passion and drive for music and the arts. It was always the one thing I wished upon a star I could do. So to be loved, appreciated, successful and financially stable within this industry would be amazing. Doing music is a career choice for me. So hard work, the right team, some good luck; God knows I’ll make it. This isn’t just a dream, this is my life.

3Q. Who supports your music more, men or women? Well to be honest, both genders equally support my music, which I’m very thankful for.

4Q. Does your music comment on social issues, if yes, how? The music I do reflects my prospective of life and life’s issues. But with that I hope when I’m telling my stories that my audience can relate to me on a personal level… We have all walked the same paths just differently.

5Q. What kinds of feedback have you received from your music to date? The feedbacks I have been receiving so far have been mixed. One of the things I make sure to maintain is an open Mind when receiving constructive criticism. Because it’s coming from my listeners, who are not necessarily fans yet. But honestly 9 out of 10 times the feedback is very good very positive very encouraging. I can’t stress this enough, I really love and appreciate my fans. So to every single person that took the time out to listen to a Karizzma song to react to comment to share to play THANK YOU!
