The journey to this milestone, however, was one of hard work, vision, and dedication.
The Humble Beginnings
Dr. Colin Small, Jr. began his venture into the culinary world with “Colfin’s Cakes” while pursuing his medical degree, funding his education by baking and selling cakes around Linden. With the support and inspiration of his mother, Fnita Small, he refined his baking skills and created a brand synonymous with quality and creativity. What started as door-to-door cake sales evolved into a beloved cafe, offering much more than just sweet treats.
A Grand Celebration: Colfin’s First Anniversary
The three-day celebration of Colfin’s first anniversary reflected its deep roots in the community, emphasizing gratitude, joy, and togetherness.
Day 1 kicked off with a Thanksgiving Breakfast, an intimate gathering of community leaders, friends, and family who had supported Colfin’s journey. The evening culminated in a Riverside Gospel Concert, featuring local talents and filling the air with a sense of spiritual celebration.
Day 2 brought the lively Riverside Hawaiian Brunch, transforming the cafe into a tropical retreat. Patrons, dressed in vibrant Hawaiian attire, mingled to the sounds of local DJs. A highlight of the day was the raffle draw, where lucky winner Gillian Washington took home a brand-new stove, further adding to the joy of the event.
Day 3 wrapped up the celebrations with a public Thanksgiving Dinner, offering a chance for the wider Linden community to join in. The personal touch of celebrating a matriarch’s birthday added warmth to the already joyous occasion, showcasing the close-knit nature of the Colfin’s community.
