We recently invited Ysmin Tilbury to participate in our Gtmemoirs 5Q interview series. Our goal was to learn about Aura Organix.

Read the full interview in the following paragraphs.

What’s your background? My name is Yasmin Tilbury. I am a graduate of the University of Guyana in Public Management and Bachelors of Law. Currently, I am pursuing post graduate studies.

I am and have always been a girly girl interested in makeup and skin care and I love experimenting with organic products. Especially since I suffer from anxiety I cannot use any kinds of products since scents and even some ingredients are harmful to me.

As such I decided to start making my own products. I started with candles and since then have added body care products – scrubs and body butter and body sprays which are all handcrafted with organically sourced ingredients.

How would you describe what you do in the manufacturing industry? I started my small business Aura Organix in 2020 December. I started small making candles which are all handcrafted and made with organic ingredients. Every product from my business is made by hand by me with some local and overseas sourced raw materials.

Who do you make your products for and why? All of my products are made for both men and women. But thus far my main supporters have been women. I try to promote self-care since I believe that it is an essential pillar for any person.

Thus my products cater to and encourage one to embrace self-care as part of everyday life.

What is the hardest lesson you have learned so far, running your business? The hardest lesson I have learnt thus far is that starting a business is time consuming. And it can take away from other aspects of your life and it is essential to find the balance. Also sourcing raw materials for my products can be such a pain locally.

So I had to really research every ingredient before I purchased online which was literally a painstaking task. Also the cost of bringing them to Guyana was another issue. So balancing the cost to produce and not to kill people with a high final cost became a balancing act for me.

What kinds of feedback have you received from your customers on your products and services? Thus far I have received overwhelming support and great reviews for all my products. I plan to add more items as I go along so keep checking my page on IG:@aura_organixgy
