+ Wisroc, Linden (Hooked to the 592) – Melody’s endeavours and aspirations in music for the future will see her launching her own publishing and distribution company. The vision is to support the growth of new talent especially within Guyana. Melody owns and operates her own lingerie online store. She plans to launch her own line of lingerie focused on more bold, extreme pieces for curvy and plus sized women.
Melody Thomas first appeared on the local music scene in 2016, after winning 3 Guyana International Artistic Music Awards. She is an East Coast Demerara based singer, songwriter, music and fashion entrepreneur.
We recently invited Melody to participate in Gtmemoirs 5Q interview series. Read the full interview in the following paragraphs and be sure to listen to ‘Better,’ after reading.

1Q. What is your background?
I was born in Guyana but moved to the UK with my family at a very young age. Attending Reality Bytes, a youth performing arts school, introduced me to arts and gave me my start as a songwriter. I’ve written for a variety of artists as well as feature on their backing vocals.
Over the years I have established myself as an artiste in my own right. So far, I have released a number of Reggae and R&B singles worldwide.
In addition I have won several music awards and recognition for my work. My awards include, three Guyana International Artistic Music Awards, Best UK Reggae Single and UK Top 20 Songs of 2020.
2Q. Who is your music made for?
My music is made for everyone, all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities. My music has always reflected the love, life and dreams of myself and people around me that inspire me daily.
3Q. How important is mental health to you and how do you deal with your mental health issues?
To me, mental health and its acknowledgement is very important to me. I am a sufferer of depression and anxiety. And I believe its dyer that mental health be a focal point of discussion especially in the young community. Through music, positive relationships and conversations I deal with my struggle daily.
4Q. Does your work comment on current social or political issues, if yes, how?
My music is based mainly on love and relationships. I have a couple of singles that focus on issues such as domestic violence, racial inequality and struggles.
5Q. Which current music world trends are you following?
I wouldn’t say that I follow any world music trends on purpose or that I can pinpoint. I just try to be organic and true to my inner musical voice.
Melody’s latest single ‘BETTER’ has a summer feel with a strong message of Emancipation from a toxic relationship. It was produced by Guyanese, GtYouth Productions and CodeRed. It was released worldwide on all platforms on 1 August 2021.
