Georgetown, Guyana – The Queen was first introduced to us in 2020 by Yung Genna Dj. We first met her during a live broadcast of Dj Saffie Hype’s Facebook Show, Sound Culture.
The unassuming Queen, who is yet to release an album, has attracted the unofficial title of Queen of Guyanese Dancehall.
It was Dj Magnum who gave her that big push during a round of freestyling at a dance in Buxton.
Early fan reviews and comments on her July 2021 released track ‘Mood,’ are comparing her to another Queen of Dancehall, Lady Saw.
We recently invited Queen, born Ruthann Allen, to participate in our Gtmemoirs 5Q interview series.

When did you decide to give your life to the Arts?
In 2020 after seeing the responses to songs by Guyanese artistes, I was amazed and I decided to give music a shot. The thought was if Drew Thoven, Kush, Baby Skello, Azariel, Stiffy Stiff, Jay Supreme and others were doing it, I can do it too.
If you were not a singer, what would you have been doing in the Arts?
If I was not singing, I would have been Modelling.
What’s your favourite song by you?
Secret Location, call my number if you want to jam down in a secret place. Wine up in a secret place. Secret Location is my first official song. It is my favourite song because it allowed me to step out of the Dancehall genre, do a Soca tune for Mashramani and executed it perfectly. It was a personal challenge which gave me a little recognition.
Where in Guyana do you want to visit, that you haven’t visited yet?
Aruwai, I would really love to visit Aruwai and the Kaieteur Falls. Those two places, I would really love to visit. I would love to see them.
Are you religious or spiritual?
I am not religious; am a bit spiritual though. I believe that things happen in the spiritual realm before they do in the physical realm. I believe that there is a God and God is a Spirit.
