# Linden, get ready! The Linden Emancipation Festival 2025 is coming this August, celebrating the strength, resilience, and excellence of African ancestry in our community. This year’s festival will be a powerful tribute to Unity (Umoja) and Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa)—honouring our heroes, educating our people, building our businesses, and celebrating our culture! Here’s what to expect:

 

  • Friday, 1st August – Emancipation Day Umoja Appreciation Dinner & Awards – Honouring outstanding Lindeners of African ancestry.
  • Saturday, 2nd – Sunday, 3rd August Linden Emancipation Street Fair & Cultural Explosion – A weekend of music, drumming, food, dance, and African fashion!
  • Monday, 11th August Afrikan Consciousness Forum & Film Screening – Learning our history, understanding our identity.
  • Friday, 15th August The Great Debate & Ujamaa Business & Investment Forum – Strengthening Black-owned businesses.
  • Saturday, 16th – Sunday, 17th August Ujamaa Business Marketplace & Expo – Showcasing and empowering African-owned businesses in Linden.
  • Friday, 22nd August Legacy & Leadership Awards – Celebrating those who paved the way.
  • Saturday, 30th – Sunday, 31st August Umoja Grand Celebration – The Best of Linden African Culture – Music, dance, storytelling, and the rhythm of the drums!

OUR HISTORY:

Ten honourees were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community in 2023. These esteemed individuals span a range of vital roles, from teachers and educators to community and political leaders, sports and tourism business owners, and dedicated service providers. Their collective efforts have woven the tapestry of unity in Linden, shaping not only our present but also the future, while inspiring generations to come. In 2024, we proudly partnered with the Amelia’s Ward Community Centre Management Committee to make a lasting impact. Together, we presented Certificates of Recognition to over 30 dedicated residents of Amelia’s Ward, acknowledging their contributions to our community. This event was more than just a festival; it’s a movement that brings us closer to our roots.
