Miike Menace, the name had be introduced to us a few years ago when we were scouting Guyanese Dancehall and Reggae performers from Linden.

At that time Guyana’s Dancehall Music Scene was enjoying something like a revival.

Miike Menace was among and remains one of the most grounded of the artists we have met since then.

Getting to know Miike Menace

His authenticity and commitment to living naturally, coupled with his willingness to transcend as often as needed, makes him one of our favourite Guyanese artists.

We were recently invited by Miike Menace to collaborate on a few community projects and took the chance to interview him.

Gtmemoirs: Tell us about Miike Menace, the artist, and the creative intelligence, who created Miike Menace.

MM: Well before I started calling myself Miike Menace everyone called me Mighty Mike.

As I got popular in the streets as a Dj I started playing a sound called King Menace sound, so I decided to change my Avatar (nickname).

Being a rebel my entire life I wanted the world to know I am a menace to this corrupt society.

So that’s the reason I created Miike Menace.

Gtmemoirs: You have several songs, about Guyana, which are your favourites and why?

MM: We Outta Gt and Talk It Clearly.

WE OUTTA GT is a remake of an older version done by Patches and Cracker Jack.

I did three things in this song:

  1. Let the world know that Guyana is not to be overlooked when it comes to dancehall music.

  2. Made people realize how powerful this song was and is to this date.

  3. Showed the world something different is coming to take over dancehall.

TALK IT CLEARLY is a song that puts Venezuela on notice we ain’t gonna have it at all.

It’s an underground track meaning it’s for the rebels like me.

Gtmemoirs:How have you been using your talents to enhance the lives of the members of your community?

MM: Well I only make feel-good music that’s it. I refuse to poison people’s minds with certain lyrics.

Gtmemoirs: You are living a life free of meat, how has it been beneficial to you?

MM: It has worked out perfectly fine, with less mucus and more energy.

Gtmemoirs: What is your favourite, Guyanese Dish, to cook, and which one do you use to promote Guyana?

MM: Cook-up Rice and Breadfruit dipped in a batter.

Gtmemoirs: Tell us about your music career, to date.

MM: I started writing music in prison in 2015.

I released my first song called STAMP in 2017 and ever since I’ve stayed on this journey releasing music every year, since making an impact on the dancehall culture in Guyana.

Gtmemoirs: Who is your favourite, Guyanese, artist?

MM: Miike Menace.

Gtmemoirs: Of all the places you have visited, throughout Guyana, where do you find the most peace?

MM: Linden, Guyana.

Gtmemoirs: Where did you first perform for a salary in Guyana?

MM: At Ice Rock Club in Wismar Linden, with Tanya Stephens in 2018.

Gtmemoirs: What makes Linden, so musically blessed, compared to other parts of Guyana?

MM: Honestly it’s based on the artist.

You can go anywhere in Guyana and find an artist that’s Dope.

Gtmemoirs: Name your all-time, top five, Guyanese songs.

MM:

  1. We Outta Gt
  2. Guyanese Cannabis
  3. Talk It Clearly
  4. Get To Know Me
  5. History

Gtmemoirs: What would you be doing, if not music?

MM: Teaching craft, I’m very creative.

Gtmemoirs: Tell us about Stages.

MM: STAGES is a way of giving back to the community.

There are a lot of young musical artists that need helpers that stem from constructing a proper melody, recording songs, vocal training, stage performance, etc.
