Welcome to the Timehri Film Festival (TFF) 2023, a celebration of cinematic excellence from Guyana and the Caribbean.
+ History of Timehri Film Festival (TFF)
TFF, an annual Guyanese and Caribbean film festival, is your gateway to the vibrant world of regional filmmaking. With a successful six-year history, TFF dedicates itself to shining a spotlight on the talent within the region and its diaspora. Let’s explore this cinematic journey together.
Founders and Collaborators
The Timehri Film Festival is a collaborative masterpiece, brought to life by the Caribbean Film Academy (CaFA), based in New York City. In partnership with Caribbean-American culture blog Rewind and Come Again (RACA), JustFilms Ford Foundation, and Third Horizon, TFF thrives as a testament to the power of partnership.
Meet the festival’s dynamic leadership: Romola Lucas, our Festival Director – a lawyer, business owner, film producer, and a significant contributor to the creative world. Complementing her are Associate Director Melissa Roberts and Technical Director Yaphet Jackman, both accomplished professionals in their respective fields.
Home Location
Though the Timehri Film Festival lacks a permanent home, it has graced various venues in the past. Not even the challenges of COVID-19 could stop TFF, as it continued its mission through online and television screenings. This year, we invite you to join us at Castellani House for a memorable cinematic experience.
Total Films Screened
With a history of over 60 films screened in the past six years, TFF now extends the tradition by presenting an additional 34 films in 2023. Dive into a diverse mix of short and feature films, promising an engaging and inclusive cinematic journey.
FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
Major Successes and Challenges
TFF’s continuous presence is a significant achievement. The ability to compensate filmmakers for their contributions and the groundbreaking move to screen films in prisons and drop-in centres are among the festival’s proudest moments.
Giving Back to the Community
TFF’s commitment to the community is evident through free admission and community screenings in schools, prisons, and the Drop-In Centre. We believe in making the art of cinema accessible to all.
Top Films Ever Screened
While narrowing down a top ten is a challenge, “Songs of Redemption” remains unforgettable. It touched the hearts of prisoners during community screenings, leaving a profound impact.
Talented Guyanese Filmmakers in 2023
This year, we spotlight Guyanese filmmakers with an exclusive lineup. Join us for opening night films by Rae Wiltshire, Alex Arjoon, Joan Cambridge-Mayfield, Hew Locke, Arlen Harris, Kaiel Eytle, and Raqeebah Zaman.
