WarChild is a proud child of the soil. A versatile child who expresses himself through music, fashion, and leading a growth-focused lifestyle.

As one of the Westside’s many artists now making music outside of Guyana. He proudly vindicates the belief that more of Guyana’s future music stars will come from the West of the Demerara River.

WarChild is one of only a few young Guyanese artists, with a firm handle on what and who controls their music.

+ We recently spoke with him via WhatsApp about his views on the state of the music industry in Guyana. About his career and life in general.

Those chats and many voice calls allowed us into his private sphere and allowed us a glimpse into his creative process and lifestyle.

The following are excerpts from our chats and conversations.

WARCHILD THE ARTIST

And for those who did not know, he wants it known that “I am from THE BEST SIDE, THE WEST SIDE “Pouderoyencurrently living in New Jersey.”

Talking about the types of music he has performed professionally and what are his favourite genres of music. When asked about the making of his song ‘Believe’ with the late Guyanese music executive, label owner, and artist, Ceejay. WarChild said “First off I would like to say RIP to the “ROR” boss Ceejay Johnson. To make a long story short, I was in the studio recording a song for Fraser Records after completing that project, I asked Ceejay for us to do a song together and he told me lets work on something and the rest is history.”

Talking about how he decides on what genre of music to perform and which artists to collaborate with, WarChild reasoned “I choose what song to perform according to the events and what the vibes are like. And, I have collaborated with some great artists. With whom I get to make music full of good energy and vibes.”

We shouldn’t have to state it, but, WarChild is visually appealing. And we ask him to describe his look and tell us who are some of his fashion influencers. He confidently responded with, “My looks are 100% me, I love fashion.”

When asked, are you a Rastafarian, WarChild replied, “No!”

We asked him to arrange the words, MUSIC POWER MONEY RESPECT FAME, in order of priority for you and say why you chose the order you did.

WarChild chose “RESPECT, MUSIC, and MONEY. To get respect you give respect and never forget to respect yourself first. Music is in my DNA with hard work and consistency comes money. Power and fame are not important to me.”

If you were to cook for the crew, what would you cook and why? WarChild replied “we can get a chef to cook for the crew. Lol!”

Talking about the management of his career, and what he’s learned about handling the business of music over the years. WarChild wrote “I am an independent artist. I have learned how crucial and biased the music business can be. And it’s very important that you have people, who genuinely support you, and most importantly be honest with you.”

Asked about where he was musically, ten years ago, and where he intended to be in ten years. WarChild offered that “Ten years ago musically I was just deciding that I would like to choose music as a career. I want to be my best self mentally and put out great music.”

Describing his ideal, day off. WarChild said, “My ideal day off is time I use to evaluate myself and take a moment to be thankful.”

Remembering the fact that many Guyanese creatives end up poor after giving their best years to the dream of making it. We asked WarChild, what do you intend to do with the proceeds from your music career? And, he stated the following “I have so many things I would like to do with my music proceeding just sit back and watch me execute. I have a lot of people depending on me.”
